1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 cup melted butter
some lemon rind
1/2 t. vanilla
2-3 sour apples (Granny Smith)
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Butter baking form and sprinkle a light layer of bread crumbs inside to cover bottom and sides.
In a medium bowl beat together egg and sugar until fluffy.
Add flour, baking powder and beat together.
Finally, blend in cooled melted butter.
Add some lemon rind.
Pour mixture into form and spread out to edges.
Batter will be thick
Slicer and core apples with Ludwig Apple Slicer Corer.
Lay peeled apple slices in pattern with round side up or lay them flat and close together.
Do Not press apples into dough
Bake for 40 minutes, or until cake and apples are nicely browned.
Melt a bit of orange marmalade, dilute with a bit of water.
Before cake cools, paint apples with melted marmalade.
